When it comes to The Lord of the Rings, one of the most common questions circulated online is why didn’t Frodo just ride the giant Eagles to Mount Doom? There are theories out there that suggest this was the plan all along, but sadly, when you look at the evidence, that's just wrong. In fact, it's so wrong, it's dangerous! In this episode, I will give you the definitive answer to why Frodo didn’t simply ride those giant birds into Mordor!

Even though the Eagles couldn't wear the ring, it would certainly corrupt them and cause them to turn on the Fellowship. Yeah, you're totally right.

MatPat, you missed the mark on this one! The Eagles' size, ability to fly, sheer power, etc., are easy enough to explain, but you are forgetting one very IMPORTANT detail...Mt. Doom is an active VOLCANO! Getting anywhere close to the enormous ash cloud would be a death sentence as volcanic ash, sulfur, sulfuric acid, super heated particulates, and (of course) extreme heat would kill any lower being the moment they took a breath! Volcanic ash clouds have been known to shoot up thousands of feet into the air, and we can see from the movies that Mordor is almost completely covered in this volcanic ash cloud 24/7. The highest we've seen the Eagles fly in the movies is only about 1-2K feet in the air (note how they barely make it over the mountains in the Hobbit movies). Even at the end of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, when Gandalf and the Eagles rescue Frodo and Sam, we see an enormous hole in the volcanic ash cloud through which Gandalf and the Eagles fly in. If that hole wasn't there, they probably wouldn't have been able to save Frodo and Sam without exposing them to the deadly volcanic ash cloud!

I actually researched this too not long ago and I dug up that the reason why is because the eagles didn't want to join this entire war. they save Gandalf because they owe him a life debt (couldn't find why). the eagles are actually neutral creatures, they don't fight for any side just for themselves which is why they join the fight at the end of the third movie, the nazgul were turning around and heading to mt doom where they would've stopped frodo so the eagles stopped them which would bring peace in the world and the eagles could finally rest.
that's just what I read, not saying it's true but I like it and if it's close to being true, cool

The eagles could fly over to mount doom if they could fly blind with armor but sadly the reason they didn't use this is because melkors magic protect all mordors creatures/ saurons things from the sight of any of eru illuvatar valars creations aka the eagles and gandolph that's why when frodo passed the mountain gandalph lost sight of them

So this just popped up in my feed and nobody seems to understand what Gandalf is actually saying. Multiple times in the book, Gandalf tells the fellowship to "fly" as in "move quickly" because they are in danger.
The scene where the balrog whips Gandalf is the "death" of the balrog and Gandalf knows this, he also knows that without the balrog, the orcs have nothing to fear and may go after the fellowship right away. Gandalf is telling the group to make haste and exit the mines of Moria before they get captured by the orcs, since they're all just standing there watching him fight the thing.
It's very simple, and easy to understand in context and I don't think many people realize this

I think I found a plot hole in this. He says they can’t risk the Eagles picking up Frodo because of the One Ring and how it may corrupt them. But in The Hobbit, Bilbo was in possession of the ring when the Eagles carried them out of the forest. So if they didn’t get corrupted then, why would you not trust them now. They could have flown Frodo a very far distance and then let him walk significantly shorter. Just an idea, I’m probably wrong😅

In the late 70s, my friends and I got to discussing how the major characters in The Hobbit would measure up in AD&D terms. By the end of the book, Bilbo would have gained enough XP to become a 2nd level Thief, while Gandalf was a 4th level Wizard at best.

In any event, Sauron's ring was just a McGuffin, the trilogy was really about Aragorn coming out of his self exile and assuming the responsibilities of kingship.

Heres another one if Bruce Lee wore the ring tho he's peak human will the ring amply his physical strength to superhuman or just turn him invisible like the hobbit!?

  • Dow Jones
Dow Jones 15 dni temu +1

so if a human wears the ring it will turn them invisible like the hobbit right!? What if that person was "evil" in nature will it have the same effect!?!?

    • Kneon Knight
      Kneon Knight 14 dni temu

Look what it did to Isildur, and the Nazgul themselves were the original keepers of The Nine. All of the nineteen rings given to the elves, men and dwarves had been corrupted by Sauron, and in turn corrupted those who wore them. Gollum, being of the same original stock as Hobbits, was able to resist the corruption to a great degree, and even though it twisted him, he managed to keep it from the Dark Lord for many years. It is mentioned in The Hobbit that their race is not given to any sort of magic other than the ordinary, everyday sort that allows them to hide when they don't wish to be bothered. Because of that, the ring could not swiftly turn them to their darker natures as easily unless they had a predisposition to baser flaws such as the greed that drove Smeagol to kill his friend to seize the ring for himself.

Didn't uncle grandpapaa (lmao) have the ring on him when he flew with the eagles in the hobbit, so it doesn't make sense when u said about frodo and the eagles plus the ring holds the bearer not the ppl or creature around him, ppl got figity around the ring when it was shown not when it was hidden so the eagles wouldn't have been affected by the ring, shit couldnt they fly above the clouds and dive bomb down to the volcano and have frodo drop it in from the top, the film would have only been an hour pmsl🤣🤣🤣

Pretty sure that Gandalf could have cloaked one of the eagles with some sort of invisibility spell. Then he and Bobo teabaggins could have flown there without and problems.

@OneBehindTheHair hiding my body from others in the realm of the seen... that sounds exactly like invisibility but with more syllables.

    • OneBehindTheHair
      OneBehindTheHair 14 dni temu

@Ben Siener That's a special instance, and even then it's not true invisibility. The Ring simply hides your body in the realm of the Seen. In the Unseen, you are still quite visible. The Ringwraiths, for example. They are completely invisible in the Seen, but remember when Frodo puts on the Ring at Weathertop?

    • Ben Siener
      Ben Siener 14 dni temu

CATwoman 1 It makes sense why Thorin would have his beard cut short. It was cut short to honor his father and grandfather, and those that died in the battle. (His father and grandfather’s beards were singed in battle so he wanted to honor them.) He would’ve grown it out again if he ended up living and becoming king. Fili and Kili’s beards being short were a little weird, i admit, but it’s one of the things I can look past.

    • Tiffané Shorter
      Tiffané Shorter 20 dni temu

CATwoman 1 And I see what you’re saying about Thorin’s age, I just wish Balin and Thorin were more peers, I guess than Balin’s mentor-y relationship.
And I ABSOLUTELY AGREE about the beards! That’s what irritates my twin the most about Kili was that it felt like he was chosen for the love triangle by the producers because he was the closest to “elvish” looks with his beard especially. Where’s the facial hair? The ornamental braids and beads? The devilishly dwarvish looks? Too many races looking like elves if the movies wanted sex appeal. Beards are sexy, too, Jackson! Lol

    • CATwoman 1
      CATwoman 1 22 dni temu +2

@Tiffané Shorter I see what you're saying about the movies portrayal of his corruption, but in reality, Balin and Thorin should be roughly the same age, or not too far apart. It had been over two hundred years since they fled as young dwarves from Smaug's attack on Erebor and a dwarf usually lived around 300 years or so. Thorin was AT LEAST well into his middle years and probably getting to be an elderly dwarf that wanted to regain his people's kingdom before he died.
I also HATED having him, Fili, and Kili portrayed with short beards. These particular dwarves were known as the LONGBEARDS. To have a beard that short at that age would have been a disgrace to any self-respecting dwarf. I didn't mind it on Ori, since he was the youngest dwarf on the expedition and it was entirely probable that his beard was still growing out, but the only reason they portrayed Thorin, Fili, and Kili in this way was for sex appeal.
