@N S America joined the war in 1941. And invaded Europe in June of 1944. This is Europe, and assume it's 1944. 1918 would've been 26 years ago, and the gentleman looks to be in his 60's. He could've well been 29 when the war broke out. 1914-1944 is 30 years, not 20.

@King Jon Starkgeryan i think you have it in reversed my friend. They worked harder, had less bad food choices ie nitrates, lattes, dunkin donuts on every corner. The reason perhaps for shorter life spans was in large part due to yet to be invented of many medical breakthrough technologies. And the soil back then was less tainted by chemicals. 😳. So you see chap things are not always what they seem. God bless you.

The interesting thing about "Hi Ho Silver!" is that this comes from a Ranger from the 2nd Ranger Battalion that assaulted Hill 400 as they charged up the hill. It was documented by Steven Ambrose who was a consultant for the series, and I think either David Schwimmer or the writers fell in love with the phrase. I would love to know whose idea it was to have him use the phrase, it was cool!

I want to point something out here. Winters stated in an interview something like “in combat you never go in a straight line, you follow the terrain to your advantage” in the full scene, Winters’ platoon used the hedges and ditches to the cross road. Sobel on the other hand had his guys marching down the road Civil War style which would’ve made them easy targets in combat.

The whole point is that Sobel is a pussy wearing an extreme cold weather coat, in summer/fall, when everyone else is wearing proper uniform. It's also the contrast in him caring a 45 for his primary weapon, when that is a sidearm. They are trying to show how fucked up he is as an infantry officer. He would be much better suited for command of a pad of paper rather than people.

Seeing how hard the Americans fought alongside us all in WW2 gave me an infinite respect for them as a kid and it still holds true now. We all like to make jokes about who did more and who saved who but in reality it was a massive, combined effort by all of the allies that shouldn't be ignored or forgotten. 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇲

      Bruhism 2 miesięcy temu +10

That's what I was thinking, running on the road would suck too, obviously no cover but your literally giving an enemy perfect enfilade fire, on foot in terrain immediately gives you benefits as you can get to cover and your not all in a straight line while moving.

I just realized that during all these exercises Sobel makes it EXTREMELY clear that he is in charge by how he dresses and carries himself and holding only a pistol... making himself the most obvious target to shoot first.

If this show was even halfway accurate I'd gladly go back in time and serve under him. A consummate professional; everyone around him became better. I don't even give a shit if I became a casualty.

@Dillon Ventola A Norfolk jacket - no. A smoking jacket was (and by some is) still a jacket worn after supper for the purpose of its namesake, smoking. Traditionally, a smoking jacket is supposed to be a barrier between your everyday (or evening) clothes. Most importantly, one would not make a traditional smoking jacket from tweed; an expensive tweed jacket would be one of the types of clothes a smoking jacket was made to protect. One reason is that wool retains odors, while thick velvet (the most common cloth for smoking jackets) tends to resist stains and the tobacco smell. As for looks, a smoking jacket tends to have more in common with a dinner jacket than a sport coat (in fact the shawl collar on many dinner suits is a carryover from the smoking jacket) with a slightly different construction make the garment better suited to its traditional use.
Of course one may also wear a smoking jacket as black tie alternative today, but if you want your garment to truly be a smoking jacket, then it’s construction will need to follow traditional methods even if you have no intention to smoke in it.
